When it comes to makeup choices, you can’t beat red lipstick! Isn’t it amazing how easily you can create a dramatic, sexy look? Even find the perfect crimson color you have to think about finding the right eye makeup too. As a professional makeup artist, I find that when wearing red lipstick, the eye makeup should be light so that all the attention will be on your pretty pout. As tempting as wearing a smokey eye with red lips may be, I say for most people this is a no-no. Ideally you want the right colors and techniques to achieve some balance without looking, well, “hookerish.”
Nobody rocked red lips like Marilyn Monroe. Take inspiration from this Hollywood glam girl. Pair those red lips with sexy eyes. Start with vanilla eyelids or try a soft pink or peach color. Next, apply liquid, black eyeliner giving it a slight wing at the end. Wear plenty of mascara but skip the eyeliner on the lower lashes. This will give your eyes a wide, innocent look. Touch your cheek bones with peach or apricot cream blusher.

Okay, if you just must do it-wear that smokey makeup. However, do stay away from the ultra-black eye makeup. Try a smokey brown; this shade looks beautiful with red lips. Use a shimmering highlighter at the brow bone and finish with black eyeliner and mascara. As for the cheeks, consider coppery blush or blusher to pull the look together.
Plan to wear glossy, red lips? Make them look kissable with the right eye makeup. I love the way pink eyeshadow looks with glossy red lips. Cover the entire lower eyelids with light pink eyeshadow. Finish with brown eyeliner along the top and lower lashes. Apply mauve blush to your cheekbones and swirl on a pink-based, highlighting powder on the apples of the cheeks. Pinks with red is so soft and romantic.
Remember to prime your lips and line them before applying your red lip color. This will give you a true color and keep the color from shifting around, even if you have a glass of wine or blow a kiss!
