New York City is gearing up for a big concert lineup in 2014. Listed below are the five shows you shouldn’t miss.
When: Starts March 28 at 8 p.m.
Where: Roseland Ballroom
Lady Gaga’s seven-night residency at Roseland will serve as a preview to her “Artrave: The Artpop Ball” tour, which is officially scheduled to begin May 4, 2014, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A smaller venue should make for a more intimate show, one which the performer should be able to better connect with her “little monsters.” The five-time Grammy winner, best known for her over-the-top costumes and sets, will be one of the venue’s final performers as the ballroom is scheduled to be demolished in April. Tickets for Roseland Ballroom are available now. If you can’t make it to Roseland, Gaga will be returning to NYC to perform at Madison Square Garden May 13, 2014.
The Used & Taking Back Sunday
When: April 15 and April 21 at 7 p.m.
Where: Best Buy Theater
Note: Must be 16 or older
Long Island’s prized alternative rock band Taking Back Sunday and post-hardcore band The Used from Utah are finally co-headlining a tour, a feat that fans of both bands can truly appreciate. In fact, tickets to these two shows are already sold out, but diehard fans can still hunt them down on sites like Stubhub. Tickets may have sold out so quickly due in part to the special pre-sale event held by both groups. For a steep discount, tickets were purchased in combination with one or both of the bands’ albums slated for release this Spring. Taking Back Sunday’s “Happiness Is” will hit shelves March 18 and The Used’s “Imaginary Enemy” will be released April 1. Opening for them are up-and-comers Sleepwave and Tonight Alive.
Bruno Mars & Pharrell Williams
When: July 14 – 15 at 7 p.m.
Where: Madison Square Garden
This is one show you don’t want to miss in 2014. Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Bruno Mars will be hitting the stage at Madison Square Garden this July on his “Moonshine Jungle” tour. Opening for him will be the one and only Pharrell Williams, who most recently has seen major success with the hits “Blurred Lines” and “Get Lucky” and who is, himself, a seven-time Grammy winner. Pharrell is only joining Bruno’s tour for eight dates, including both nights at MSG, so New Yorkers should take advantage. Tickets are on sale now but going fast; get them while you can.
When: July 29 at 6 p.m.
Where: Central Park Summerstage
Join Indie posterboy Conor Oberst with special guest Dawes in Central Park this summer for a relaxing evening of soft tunes. The singer-songwriter and guitarist is well known for his work in the bands Bright Eyes, Desaparecidos, and the Mystic Valley Band and has also seen great success with his solo work. Oberst is promoting his new album scheduled for release May 20, 2014 entitled “Upside Down Mountain”. Fans can expect his Central Park performance to include songs from both his solo projects and his bands. Tickets for the show are available now.
Mötley Crüe & Alice Cooper
When: October 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Madison Square Garden
It’s going to be a head-banging blast from the past. Join the rock gods of Mötley Crüe, Nikki Six, Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, and Mick Mars, for The Final Tour. That’s right; it’s the heavy metal band’s final tour after over 30 years of rocking out. And Alice Cooper will be joining them to bid them a fitting farewell.
