Being Stranded at the Airport-Tips

by yak max

Becoming stranded at the airport on the way to my brother’s wedding was not a fun experience for me. I was at the airport for over 30 hours and ended up missing my brother’s wedding. However, I was glad that I had thought ahead and took some of the following items with me. They helped me get through the time and frustration. I have listed those and other items that I wished I had had with me. In addition, every person traveling should have a carry-on bag with these items.

Clothes

I take a carry-on bag that keep extra set of clothes which includes underwear, socks, pants and tops. If you are at the airport for days, at least you will have extra clothes to change into. If your bags are lost along the way, you will have at least one change of clothing. If you are going from one, type of climate to another pack the extra clothing to meet the weather change. I had taken my dress clothes for the wedding and an extra set of regular clothes.

Medications

Carry all of your medications with you either in your carry-on bag or in your purse. This saved me since I take prescription medications. In addition, this good idea just in case your baggage gets lost along the way. All medications must be in their prescription bottles with your name on them.

Entertainment

I had taken my Kindle with me so that I could read. If you wear, glasses take them in your carry-on or purse. If you are traveling, take something to do such as your computer, Kindle, games, and MP3 players, small toys, even coloring books and crayons something kids will enjoy. Kids get bored easily and this will save your sanity.

Snacks

I was oh so glad that I took a couple of peanut butter cracker snacks in my purse. I tend to have low blood sugar, which drops fast. If you are on a short trip, the airlines no longer serve snacks just drinks, so if you get hungry you are out of luck. In addition, kids tend to get hungry and need snacks. The food at the airport is very expensive.

Baby Items

If you are traveling with a baby, think about what you are going to need for the baby for a weekend trip. Such as diapers, baby formula, medications, wipes, baby food, extra clothes that way you will not run out if stranded.

Other Items

Some other items that you can place in your carry-on bag or purses are make-up, hairbrush, deodorant, tooth brush and tooth paste. Take along a small package of wipes so you can wash your face and freshen up a bit. These items are comfort items that can help refresh you and help you feel like you have at least cleaned up some.

I also placed my camera into my carry-on bag so that if my other luggage were lost I would still have my camera.

Just remember even short flights during unpredictable weather or other things can leave you stranded if you have connecting flights. So, plan on the possibility of becoming stranded or even delayed flights. We often do not think of the simple things that we can do to make this less of a frustrating experience. I hope these tips help you.
