Marvel Puzzle Quest Dark Reign is a Match 3/Role Playing game available on Google Play, Steam, and iOS. The growing number of players makes good strategy important for placing well in tournament events and earning prizes. I’ve been playing for several months and earn many prizes in featured events. I even won the “Blind Justice” event. Here are some tips for new players with less powerful characters to play competitively.
Don’t Buy Characters with Iso-8 Crystals or Hero Points
Don’t be tempted to use your Iso-8 crystals or valuable Hero Points on buying character covers. Save the Hero Points to buy more slots for your roster. Featured Event tournaments often require specific characters in your roster. Having to sell characters due to a shortage of slots in your roster will limit your chances to join featured events.
Don’t waste your Iso-8 crystals on covers, either; you need them to level up characters. Play the Prelude Missions to build up your standard character covers. You’ll also get plenty of Standard Recruit Tokens as prizes from Featured Events and as Daily Rewards.
Build Teams with a Fighter, a Mage, and a Tank
A “fighter” has strong offensive powers and does heavy damage to enemies. Both versions of Hawkeye, Bullseye, Daken, Wolverine (Astonishing X-Men), and Storm (Modern) are examples of “fighter” characters. At high levels Daken can be almost impossible to kill.
“Mage” characters use powers that heal your team, provide advantages, or hinder the enemy. Early on, Black Widow Modern is your mage, providing Attack Points (AP) and stunning enemies. All of the Black Widow characters fall into the mage category. Black Widow (Original) might be the best mage character in the whole game. Think twice about fighting a team that has a high level Original Widow. On the same team, Black Widow (Modern) and Storm (Modern) can dominate a match so thoroughly they prevent the other player from having another turn.
“Tanks” are often characters who naturally have high numbers of hit points; like Thor, Hulk, or Ragnarok. However, if you are pouring most of your Iso-8 into growing one character, they will become the tank for your team regardless of what powers they have. I most often use Captain America or Thor as the tank for my team, despite the fact that Cap’s powers could qualify him as a mage and Thor’s as a fighter.
Join Player versus Environment Featured Events
Players with weaker teams will do best joining Player versus Environment Featured Events. During “The Hulk” event, I gained a large number of recruit tokens which greatly improved my character strength and play options. PvE Events practically rain prizes. There are plenty of missions that weaker teams can play and win Iso-8 and recruit tokens. In the “Iso-8 Brotherhood” Featured Event, I won three new characters, seriously strengthened some characters already on my roster, and earned well over 30,000 Iso-8 crystals.
