‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’: Breaking Down What We Know

by yak max

“Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” will present the first time that the world has seen the two greatest superheroes in comic book history appear together in the same movie. In what should be a matter of excitement for comic book fans, it seems that all that is being spoken of are the complaints about the rumors and news breaking about the making of the movie. It all started with a lack of appreciation for “Man of Steel” and then amped up when Ben Affleck signed on to play Batman.

Now, there are more complaints about the most recent “Batman V Superman” news, including the new title, the Batman costume and the hints at the plot. Here is a look at the most recent news that has caused an uproar online with comic book fans.

“Dawn of Justice”

The first complaint comes in the subtitle “Dawn of Justice.” For awhile now, some fans have thought that “Batman V Superman” was not so much about the two heroes meeting, but just a way to set up a movie about the Justice League. When news came that Gal Gadot signed on to play Wonder Woman in the movie and Victor Stone, the future Cyborg, was appearing in the movie, it appeared that the production team was jamming as much as possible into the movie to set up Justice League.

Honestly, though, the two roles are supposed to be minor roles and there are even hints that Dick Grayson would appear as well, but the former Robin also isn’t expected to play a superhero either. What happened when the “Dawn of Justice” title was announced was that people claimed it proved that this was nothing more than a movie to lead to a Justice League movie. Honestly, though, this isn’t any different than the name “Captain America: The First Avenger.”

“Vs.”

Originally, the movie was being called “Batman vs. Superman,” but the new title changed the “vs” to “V,” which is actually quite confusing. Some jokes online compared the “V” to the Roman numeral and asked when “I” through “IV” happened. At the end of the day, it is just a cosmetic change, probably made for marketing reasons. The fact is that this movie will pit Batman against Superman as enemies at the start, and then have something happen later that will require them to work together. It follows their relationship from the comics, where they were not close until years later, and even then, Batman never completely trusted Superman.

The Batman Costume

The biggest contention comes from a black and white photo released of Ben Affleck in costume next to the Batmobile. Most of the complaints were about Affleck looking “fat” in the costume, but there were also complaints that the costume looked just like the one from Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies. However, director Kevin Smith has seen the costume and has informed fans that the Batman costume is great and looks just like the costume from “The Dark Knight Returns” comic book. While there is not telling whether the movie will meet expectations, there really is no reason to complain until the movie is actually seen.
