It seems that the latest trend is to have a grandma baby shower. I don’t think that it is necessary for grandparents to have a separate shower, but they can be included in the shower festivities. Grandparents can be excited about having the baby, and will probably also be very involved in the care of the baby. So it only makes sense to include them in the shower festivities. Of course as long as mom does not mind sharing some of the attention, then this shower will work just fine. Below you will find some ideas to help you with planning our shower to include parents.
A gift table for grandma
If you are going to include the grandma in the shower then you will want to have a separate gift table for grandma. This will help to make sure that the attention is not taken away from mom, since she will have her own table. I have often found it to be a good idea to add grandma’s gift table near the entrance of the party. Mom’s gift table can be up front and center near where the seats area. Most expectant moms choose to include the grandmas by having them sit next to them during the opening of the gifts, but choose to have them open their gifts at home. Of course if you don’t mind, them opening their gifts after you have finished then allow them to do so. Grandmas special table can be decorated just for her, but still should coordinate with mom.
Special chair for mom and grandma
Grandma can also have a separate chair, that is decorated for her, and the chair can be placed next to mom. Remember that grandmas role will be one of an assistant. So she needs to be next to mom, but still can be made to feel special. Adding a few grandma balloons to her chair can certainly help.
Separate activities for mom and grandma
When it comes to the shower games, it’s a good idea to have separate games for mom, and for grandma. Possibly games that would show grandmas experience, and also how much of a help she will be to the expectant parents. Just be sure to do the expectant moms games first. Remember that the focus should still be on the mom who is carrying the baby and grandma is playing a supportive role.
As for the special cakes that come with a baby shower, have one for mom and one for grandma. The cakes should each be put on their own separate table, decorated just for them. Remember that moms cake should still take center stage when compared with grandma. Be sure both the expectant mom and grandma take home a piece of cake just for themselves.
