Silly games are often part of baby showers, but don’t forget to include something a little more meaningful the next time you plan a baby shower. These options fill in some time on the shower schedule and give the mom-to-be some unique items that are personalized by the people who attend.
Personalized Baby Items
Encourage the baby shower guests to get creative with this keepsake option. Buy enough plain onesies, bibs or cloth diapers to use as burp rags so that each guest has one. You’ll also need either fabric paints or fabric markers. The guests each personalize one of the items for the mom-to-be. It might have an encouraging or funny message, an image or anything else on it. Encourage the guests to put their initials or names on the items so the mom knows who made each one. Every time she uses the items, she’s reminded of the people closest to her who were at her shower.
If you have long-distance guests who can’t make the shower, send them each one of the items you plan to decorate. Have them send it back before the shower so you can give it to the guest of honor on the special day.
Set of Blocks
Instead of decorating a cloth item, have the guests decorate wooden blocks. Buy a wooden block for each shower guest, plus lots of paint. You can also offer up scrapbook paper that the guests can write on and decoupage onto the blocks. Each block gets a personal touch from an individual guest. When put together, the mom-to-be has a very special set of blocks for decorating her baby’s nursery.
Another special gift to give the guest of honor is a bundle of special notes from the shower guests. Put out cards or pieces of decorative paper. The guests write a message to the mom-to-be on the cards. They could be funny or motivational. After the baby is born, the new mom has all of the personalized notes to get her through when she feels exhausted or overwhelmed.
Another option is to have the guests write notes to the baby. They might share a special story about the mom-to-be, for example. These become a keepsake for the mom to save until her baby is old enough to enjoy them.
This option requires you let the guests know ahead of time. Ask each guest to buy a special book for the new baby’s library. Request that each guest write a special message on the inside of the book to the mom-to-be and/or to her baby. She’ll enjoy reading the messages when she opens the books. When she reads the books to her baby, she’ll be reminded of all the special people in her life.
