The latest part of the ongoing saga of the Avengers centers on the robotic villain, Ultron. Ultron is an artificially intelligent robot that is presumably created by Tony Stark. While many are focused on the mechanical menace that Ultron will bring to the Avengers they are missing another robotic character appearing in the film. Ultron plans for a robot designed to bring the Avengers into a trap and he creates the Vision. Vision is among the cast credits and will be voiced by Paul Bettany. Bettany is better known for providing the voice for Tony Starks computer advisor JARVIS. With Bettany voicing both JARVIS and the Vision, there must be some connection between the characters.
Who is the Vision?
The Vision is not merely a robot but is a synthezoid. Ultron created Vision to be closer to a human than he was and gave him a more realistic looking skin and deeper human personality. The goal was to create a synthetic android that would be more like a human being. In some respects, Ultron succeeded and made Vision more human. Vision was originally designed to draw the Avengers into a trap but turns against his maker and saves the Avengers. Vision will later join as a full member of the Avengers and marry the Scarlet Witch.
Powers and Abilities
The Vision has the ability to change his solidity at will. He can become intangible to pass through objects or allow objects to pass through him. The ability to decrease solidity becomes essential in the Vision’s power. The intangible state allows the Vision the power of flight and makes him almost ghostlike. One of the more devastating attacks that Vision possesses is to partially become solid within a target. Usually Vision performs this attack with his hand and causes intense pain in the victim.
Vision also has the ability to shift his mass to become incredibly dense. Increasing his mass allows the Vision to withstand a wide variety of attacks such as bullets and physical attacks. Vision can also deliver attacks with increased strength. Vision gains a near invulnerability when in this state of solidity.
Vision has a solar energy emitter on his forehead that can emit powerful beams of cosmic power. These beams create massive heat and can burn through most objects. The attack is powerful enough to take down most opponents. Vision can use the beam to cut through many different substances.
Vision can fire beams of infrared and microwave radiation from his eyes. These optic blasts of intense radiation can sear through most things. At one point Vision was forced to cut off one of his own arms with his eye beams.
The Vision goes into action against the Avengers in the Age of Ultron. He will display a variety of his powers in combat against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Avengers Age of Ultron comes to theaters in May 2015.
