2014 May very well become known as the year of comebacks in metal. While some younger bands have albums coming up, some familiar faces also have a vision for a new album to hit shelves this year.
Guns N’ Roses, if it can still be called that, has been around since the 1980’s. The only original member still active in the band is Axl Rose who has finished work on a new album for the band which is believed to be a follow-up to 2008’s Chinese Democracy. Chinese Democracy was not the greatest work from Axl but I look forward to what he will put out next. It’s always interesting to see where old stars go with new sounds.
Seventeen is a big number. Redeemer of Souls will be the seventeenth studio album from Judas Priest and is set to debut in July. Judas Priest are known as one of the forefathers of metal music. The band has seen success since forming in 1969. With thirteen all new tracks from the band, there is no telling just what we’ll hear on the album. It is exciting to know Judas Priest will finally be putting out a new album since 2008’s Nostradamus.
With twelve tracks in the works, it seems this may be the year we see a new Anthrax album. While it’s only been three years, metal fans everywhere cannot wait for Anthrax to drop a new bombshell album on us. The band is one of the most influential bands in modern metal and has never failed to impress this music fan.
Although the band is not one of my favorites and I cannot say much for my own excitement, Metallica is considered one of the biggest rock/metal bands of all time. With a new album in the works, die-hard fans are sure to be pleased when the record finally hits shelves. The band hasn’t recorded new material since Death Magnetic. Metallica die-hards can rejoice knowing the band is close to a new album being done.
Nikki Sixx’s band Sixx A.M. is set to debut a new album soon. Sixx has stated that the album is near completion and finishing touches are being put on the tracks. Sixx A.M.’s last album was a surprisingly good record and I personally cannot wait for the follow-up to the 2011 album. The band was thought to be on hiatus due to Sixx touring with Motley Crue, this does not appear to be the case.
Metal and rock fans have quite a year coming up for them. While other younger bands (including Fozzy) are putting out great new material that we all look forward to, these very well may be the most anticipated new albums of the year. Hopefully they’ll all hit shelves by December!
