Take one of the hottest female performers in country music. Put her in a packed venue, with a rocking band, on one of the most special days of the year. What you get, is a great night at one of the most underrated music venues in the South, the 120 Tavern and Music Hall in Marietta, Georgia.
That is what you had on Valentine’s night for Angela Reign’s “Rock My Valentine Party.”
Asking some of the concert-goers last night, the word most were using to describe the evening was “perfect.”
It really was perfect, and that started with the venue. Since it was my first to this venue as the 120 Tavern and Music Hall, I didn’t know what to expect.
What I found was impressive. The Music Hall had a Chastain-like feel to it with a table setup and candlelight. The lighting and mood was set early on with Robert Meadows chosen as the opening act.
Meadows may be best known as on of the best keyboardists in the region, but he debuted a CD in 2013. Meadows mixed in some of his original material with covers from the likes of the Little River Band, Toto, and Bill Joel.
Once Meadows’ set was over, he wasn’t done for the night.
Meadows assumed the role of playing bass guitar in Angela Reign’s band and while Reign always steals the show with her vocals and engaging performance, her band kept right up with whatever she needed.
Reign took the audience through her hits, but a cover of Aerosmith’s “Sweet Emotion” got the crowd up on their feet and wanting more.
Reign went through a few costume changes during the performance, but her slow ballads in honor of Valentine’s Day, and all the couples in the audience, really were impressive.
The show Reign and her band put on is always high energy, but it was a welcome addition for her to slow it down and put a little romance in the air.
“Range” is a great word to use when describing what Reign does. She’s rock, she’s country, she’s country rock. She throws in some R&B and Americana along the way. She also now will have crossover appeal to the hip-hop crowd. She was joined by hip-hop’s Se’ Von, who is another award-winning act from the state of Georgia.
All in all, a great night with another great performance from Angela Reign. The venue was tremendous, and the crowd appreciative.
See Angela Reign when you can.
In June, Angela was crowned Best Female Country Artist of the Year by the Georgia Music Awards. She also received a nomination in 2012 for Best Music Video of the Year for her debut music video. Showing her versatility, Angela’s band was a finalist in Hard Rock’s International Battle of the Bands and CBS Atlanta recently named Angela’s band one of the 5 Best Local Rock Bands, the only female-led band to make this list.
Angela has recently signed with Premier Records.
Signing with a label like Premier Records will immediately increase Angela’s visibility not only in the Southeast, but across the country.
