On a regular basis, I enjoy eating grilled cheese sandwiches for supper. For quite a while the brand of American cheese singles that I purchased and ate was Kraft American Singles.
A few months ago however, I spotted a display of Borden White American Singles in the dairy case at Central Supermarket in Hartford, Connecticut’s west end.
Through the years I have eaten various Borden products many times and have always been pleased with the quality and flavor of every one of their products I’ve tried.

Taste / Flavor
When it comes to flavor, Kraft White American Singles and Borden White American Singles really deliver.
There is not a huge difference in flavor between the Kraft White American Singles and the Borden White American Singles, but I can taste a slight difference. Although the flavors of both brands of American slices are indeed quite similar, I find that I actually prefer the flavor of the Borden slices a little bit more than the flavor offered by the Kraft slices.
Although their flavors are largely the same, the Borden singles seem to offer a slightly milkier flavor. What’s amazing to me is that I don’t mind eating a small piece of the Borden cheese straight from the package. Usually, I can only eat a piece of cheese if it is melted, because the cheesy taste is too strong for me.
On a flavor scale of one through ten, I would assign the Kraft White American Singles a rating of 9.85.
On a flavor scale of one through ten I would assign Borden White American Singles a rating of 10.
Kraft White American Singles are packaged in a mostly blue and white plastic wrapper
Borden White American Singles are packaged in a largely red plastic wrapper. The front label features an illustration of the Borden mascot Elsie the Cow and the rear label lists all relevant ingredient and nutrition information.
One packaging feature with the Borden White American Singles that I think could use some improvement is the way that the clear plastic wrappers that hold the individual slices of cheese open up. It is very difficult to see where the line that folds back to open the wrapper is situated.
All things considered, Kraft White American Singles and Borden White American Singles are very similar in appearance, flavor and texture.
Although I personally prefer the flavor of the Borden singles slightly over the Kraft singles, I would also recommend both brands of American singles.
