America is the land of opportunity. Well, it once was the land of opportunity. Jobs are scarce and careers usually require years of school that can’t be paid for by the jobless. It seems that unless you’ve hit some dumb luck, you’re stuck in your caste for a lifetime. Some Americans have taken their fate into their own hands. They’ve either been turned down by too many jobs or simply grew tired of repeating the endless cycle of dead end jobs. These people have began to find their own way through life without bowing to the standard.
Upon leaving my last job, I could no longer deal with the frustrations of depending on unreliable employers. These employers expect the workers to fulfill their every need while doing nothing to keep the employees happy. This is because they do not need to. Citizens need money for living expenses and must work these unreasonable hours to unreasonable standards just to make enough to be broke by the end of the month. Employers see no need to keep the employees happy because these employees need their jobs. The employee is totally expendable. If the employee doesn’t meet standards, they can easily be replaced by the next applicant who can’t afford to live and is willing to bend even further.
Promises are made to the applicants to lure them into the trap. Once the applicant becomes an employee, they rarely ever see the benefits they were promised. Most states are now “at-will” work states. This means that at any given time for no reason, the employer can terminate employment. The employer will never run out of potential employees because the applicants are all people who are repeating step one of the process. They’ve lost their job and are now willing to bend even further than the last employee.
I could no longer be a part of this vicious circle. I had acquired too many talents in my lifetime. Talents that were wasting away as I spent countless hours of my life serving the public their products. I decided to research methods of making money on my own. I no longer wished to empower the almighty employer. I decided to go to the very roots of my personal history and take up writing again. I’d written stories as a child and missed creating something from nothing. I found the best sites that pay the most money for the best material and began submitting content. I’ve began to make a steady living off of my writing since.
I create my own hours, work from my own home and work in my pajamas at times. I’ve finally gotten something all human beings crave but can never seem to achieve… freedom. I no longer allow the system to control me. I make my own path by making my own work.
Americans all around us are beginning to have this same awakening. All around us, people are refusing to bend to the will of the system and begin creating their own lifestyle. Writers, artists, actors, anyone with a talent is beginning to find their own ways to make the ends meet financially. Soon enough, the working world as we know it will be no more. Less people will find the need to bow to the employer’s will and perhaps only then, the employers will begin to care about the employees. Only then will they no longer see each face as expendable.
