I taught middle school and raised four kids. So I speak fluent teen. When we think cosmetics, we tend to think of girls. But boys are concerned about hygiene too. Here are seven personal care products teen guys love.
Nivea sensitive skin shave gel: Razor bumps are the bane of shaving. They itch, burn and look ugly. They’re hard to get rid of. Using sensitive skin shave cream like Nivea and Aveeno, helps prevent razor rash. Nivea makes an after-shave balm that soothes, too.
Dove Men’s Care body wash: Body wash tends to be gentler on skin than soap but the fragrance is stronger. Dove Men’s Care scents that last through the day. Boys tend to favor the exfoliating varieties as they scrub cleaner. They like the body scrubber tool, also.
Aveeno Ultra-Calming facial products: Soapless colloidal oatmeal products relax inflamed skin. That’s great for acne. Use with 10-percent benzoil peroxide cream and medicated cleansing pads to control zits.
Axe Body Spray: This really is the smell of teen spirit (thank you, Nirvana), the signature fragrance of middle school. Each teen will have a preferred scent. I get holiday gift sets with three or four styles so he can choose.
Degree Clinical Strength deodorant: I honestly don’t know if there is such a thing as medical strength deodorant. It costs more, but if it works, it’s with it. With puberty hormones on red alert, sweat glands are in overdrive. And a lot of kids can’t or don’t shower after phys. ed. So body odor is a big concern. Whatever style you get, be sure to get an antiperspirant and deodorant in one product.
Burt’s Bees lip balm: Lip care isn’t just for girls. Guys needs sun and wind protection too. And Burt’s Bees has a lot of neat flavors, pink grapefruit being very popular.
Listerine Whitening Restoring mouth wash: Don’t let teen boys kid you. They care just as much about having super-white teeth as girls. They’re paranoid about bad breath, too. Whitening mouth wash has a strong mint flavor plus bleaching agent.
It’s not easy being a teenager–teasing, expectations, peer pressure. Parents can alleviate stress by making sure their boys have personal hygiene under control. It’s a small price to pay for a little added confidence. And if you buy the store brands, use coupons and shop sales, it’s even smaller! Check product websites for coupons and promotions.
