What does love look like?
“It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has the eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like.”
Would it surprise you if I told you that Edgar Allen Poe was adopted?
How about Steve Jobs, Eric Clapton, John Lennon, Ray Liotta, Tim McGraw and his lovely wife Faith Hill, Nelson Mandela, Marylin Monroe and a long list of others too numerous to enumerate?
In fact, adoption was popular thousands of years ago. Moses was adopted as was Augustus Caesar, Tiberius, Caligula and Nero.
Oh, and let us not leave out Jesus, the cornerstone of the Christian Faiths. Joseph took Him in as his own, and consequently gave Jesus his brothers and sisters.
“Mark 6:3 tells us that Jesus had four younger brothers and at least two sisters, the children of Mary and Joseph. The sisters’ names have not been preserved, but the brothers were called James (in the Hebrew, Jacob), Joses (in the Hebrew, Joseph, after his father), Simon, and Judas or Juda (also known as Jude).” https://www.lds.org/ensign/1987/03/the-brothers-of-jesus-loving-the-unbelieving-relative?lang=eng
Today, celebrities like Ewan McGregor, ( Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Matt Damon (Jason Bourne), Will Smith (Men in Black-Agent J), Brad Pitt (The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons) and Ben Affleck (Pearl Harbor ..Capt. Rafe McCawley) are leading by example in adopting orphans. That’s a good thing, as the UN estimated 153 million orphans world wide.
So who are these unsung hero’s, who’s popularity at box offices magnify their efforts to adopt?
Brad Pitt continues to nurture his marriage, his children and his astonishing A-list star career. Apparently in that order! In fact, Brad and Angelina started looking for child #7 earlier this year. http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/534533/20140116/brad-pitt-angelina-jolie-brangelina-adoption-ethiopia.htm#.U4YhnCe9afs
Brad Pitt was very clear and concise about adoption from the beginning to date.
“They’re as much my blood as I am theirs. And they are brothers and sisters. One came from Ethiopia, one from Vietnam, one from Cambodia, and one was born in Namibia. And they are brothers and sisters, and they have fun and they squabble and they fight, just like any other family. And it makes me so proud.” http://www.americanadoptions.com/adoption/celebrity_adoption
“Rumors have been circulating that the couple will be back on the silver screen together in a yet to be titled film, which is written by Jolie…”is also slated for an upcoming project with Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, and Scott Eastwood, Fury, a WWII drama from Sony, slated for a November release.” http://guardianlv.com/2014/05/brad-pitt-and-angelina-jolie-teaming-up-again/
Although with no specific reasons given, they found some overseas adoptions difficult, as in the case of Jordan. When this occurred, they switched antennae toward Ethiopia.
This has been an awesome relationship between Brad, Angelina and their current six child brood. They are known to cozy up before cameras with each other and their six children as natural as breathing oxygen. That, my friends is leading by example.
Hugh Jackman has been married to Deborra Lee Furness for 17 years and have two adopted children. Jackman is currently involved in the project “Pan”, where he will play the Pirate Blackbeard, due to be released in the Summer of 2015. In addition, he will return to Broadway in early 2015 to star in “The River”. An additional project of current, is “The greatest Showman on Earth”, highlighting the character of P.T. Barnum. He has recently finished a science fiction based comedy, “Chappie”, due to be released in early 2015. If this doesn’t tire you out thinking about the energy it takes to perform in such a rigorous schedule, remember that he pays a great amount of attention to his family so as not to leave them high and dry on the sandbar of stardom! http://www.allaboutjackman.com/latest.html
Another wonderful quote: “But Jackman goes to great lengths to distance Oscar and Ava-and himself from Hollywood exotica. ‘In real life I’m a little boring,’…’I think that’s why I like playing extreme characters…’http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2629959/The-sexiest-man-alive-My-wife-doesnt-think-Hugh-Jackman-reveals-hes-no-superhero-family.html#ixzz332R3uLRO
Adoption is a very generous notion, it places a child where he or she is wanted, and needed. Global adoption can have many loopholes and red tape cracks with which an adoption can fall into.
Each country may have separate rules within it’s borders differing between provinces. These celebrities hire international help to weed out stone-walling bureaucracies. The following article explains some of the difficulties in detail.
“The laws of countries vary in their willingness to allow international adoptions. Some countries, such as China and South Korea, have relatively well-established rules and procedures for international adoptions, while other countries expressly forbid it.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_adoption
With reports of millions of children without one parent or both, without resources to live a fulfilling life, and sometimes without the necessities to survive past infancy, adoption is a truly heroic feat. We should be thankful for people like our A-list stars for doing for others, while in the face of media scrutiny daily.
I don’t know about you, but I salute these contemporary iconic hero’s.
Have a marvelous Fathers day my friends!
