Adobe Creative Cloud is the subscription based version of Adobe’s Creative Suite Software. Photoshop CC had an update to it earlier this year in January but the major Creative Clouds applications got new features just in time for their one year anniversary. This keeps with Adobe’s promise of rewarding Creative Cloud users with new powerful updates instead of an 18-24 months release cycle.
The Photoshop In Focus Selection Feature.
Photographers are among the hold outs who don’t see Photoshop CC as having features that they would need or use compared to older versions of Photoshop. Photoshop In-Focus Selection changes all of that. Now you can select only a part of a photo that is “in focus” and manipulate it or remove it from the background more easily than ever before.
Depth of Field is technique that every professional photographer knows how to take advantage of, but now in Photoshop they can easily leverage it to remove their models or products from complex backgrounds more quickly. The tool will find the area that is in focus, and allow you to add and subtract from that selection and then clean it up further with the refine edge tool. Photographers and Graphic Designers using this in their Photoshop work-flow will have much more freedom and will be able to easily create stunning photographs and advertisements with much less work.
Content Aware Adaptation
The content aware tools for patching, fill and movement are among the most powerful tools in photo retouching and photo manipulation that Photoshop has to offer. One of the main issues unfortunately has always been that while it is great at picking up patterns, it fails to match the colors appropriately. Now with content aware adaptation that is no longer the case. Content aware adaption allows you to adjust the color appropriately using a number value to try and match the context of your image.
New Blur Filters
Photoshop CC 2014 also introduced two new filters to the blur gallery: Spin Blur and Path Blur. Spin blur will allow you to create motion blur for spinning objects extremely intuitively. This will allow you to create more natural blur motions on wheels, disk and other objects moving in a circular motion.
Path blur allows you to create select blurs without needing to create mask over your entire image. You can control multiple blur points and adjust them non destructively. This is great for simulating motion on a single body part in a still frame that implies movement.
Several Other Powerful Improvements
Overall Photoshop CC 2014 is an improvement that makes Photoshop more efficient and will reduce the time that Photographers and Designers spend doing everyday task. The amount of control and the faster turn around times on certain task makes it worthwhile for those who haven’t bothered to upgrade to Creative Cloud from a previous version yet. Improvements like the ability to easily preview text in the context of your document just by hovering over the font choice, and the ability to package Photoshop documents and the assets within are good examples of this. These types of features directly effect productivity and efficiency.
The latest version of Photoshop CC widens the gap between itself and previous version, even Photoshop CS6 significantly. As more new features for Creative Cloud continue to widen this gap and improve the speed at which users can produce the results they need, those clinging to the old perpetual license versions will find it more difficult to compete.
