The most important quality is that they fit comfortably. If they are too tight, you will get a stomach ache and indigestion. Then your whole day is ruined. When we buy not only jeans, but any type of pants, we are trying to create a balance between the top half and the bottom half of our bodies. I am writing this article as a guide to help you buy the perfect pair of jeans.
Some Basic Styles to Start With and More Unique Options
Start with preshrunk and a relaxed fit. Styles with a high waist help make your legs look long. If you are looking for a slim waste make sure your jeans fit in the waste. If your jeans fit in the waste you will look slimmer no matter who you are. Someone wearing high heels could wear slim leg jeans or flare leg jeans. For a casual look you would want a relaxed fit or classic fit jean. For a dressy look you would want a tighter fitting jean. People with a pear shape should stay away from jeans with tapered legs. This style will emphasize your thighs. If you have a rectangle figure you should wear boot-cut or flared leg jeans. This type of jean will make you look balanced. If you wear a plus size pant it is good to go with a dark wash denim jean. Every shape looks good in a dark wash denim jean. I am petite so I shop for petite preshrunk relaxed fit jeans. They seem to be the best buy for me. I would never wear slim leg jeans they would make me look fat.
What to Look For in Terms of Fit, Function, Etc.
In terms of fit you want to make sure the legs, crotch and waste areas are not too tight. They must also look good in the mirror from behind. The best thing to do is to try them on in the store before you buy them. Walk around the store dressing room area, sit down in them, bend over and see if you can walk with your keys in your pocket. For men put your wallet in the back pocket when you walk around. You should be able to put no more than two fingers in the waste. Wear your shoes when you try on jeans in the store. Jeans are made of cotton. If you do not have to put them in the dryer line dry them. They will shrink every time you dry them. I wash my new clothes inside out to try to keep the newness look as long as possible.
