McKinney and Fairview residents love shopping local boutiques like few others in the North Dallas suburbs. In a sea of big box retail, you can discover those unique treasures, and shoes are no exception. You can find current fashions with an old fashioned shopping experience.
Gotta Have My Pumps
At the corner of Virginia and Kentucky on the square in downtown McKinney, Pumps offers the premier local shoe boutique experience. Funky and humorous, this is the shop for the serious shoe lover, looking for up–and–coming designers. They are open from 10:30 to 5:30, Monday through Saturday, with plentiful parking across Kentucky, just north of the shop. Trolley bus service is available from Craig Ranch in west McKinney, along with the GoTaps public transportation service.
Kick Up Your Heels
While you’re at the square, cross over to Tennessee Street for Kick Up Your Heels. They offer a more general shoe experience. There’s no website, other than their Facebook page or posted hours. Less funky, this is the shop to find the boots you’d expect from a Texas boutique. They often have sales from 20%-40% off. While not a discount destination, you can find unexpected bargains while still shopping local.
The best kept boutique secret in McKinney is just off the square, south from Kick Up Your Heels on Tennessee Street. The proprietor isn’t really named Harry, and he does far more than boot and shoe repair. Meeting “Harry” is like walking back in time for service. Start off with shoe repair of quality, leather shoes. The locals know to get to know him. His hours aren’t posted, but that’s the Tennessee Street inside joke. Not all of his services are listed, either. But, once you build up a personal rapport with him, you’ll discover his custom service experience. At Harry’s, you can find a unique treasure. If you like off-menu restaurant orders, you’ll love “Harry.” Of course, there’s no website, and not much point in calling on the phone. This is an in-person experience.
Buffalo Creek Cowgirls
Not every boutique in the McKinney/Fairview is on the square. Located in the Village at Fairview on US 75 and Stacy Road, Buffalo Creek Cowgirls provides the boutique experience in an outdoor mall setting. They are open from Monday to Saturday, 10am – 9pm, and Sunday, 11am – 6pm. Locals love the Texas feel and plentiful parking.
Shoe lovers in McKinney and Fairview can step outside of the big box and find treasures. From Harry’s to Cowgirls, pumps to heels, you’re sure to find unique shoes. As the locals know, get to know those shop owners, too. You just might be surprised at their secrets.
