Whether it’s because you have a business dinner that goes late into the evening, a date that you never want to end, or just a simple case of the midnight munchies, there are times when a meal is required far past the time most restaurant kitchens traditionally close. Fortunately for the Greater Phoenix area, many restaurants open late into the evening are easy to find – and delicious to enjoy.
Kazimierz World Wine Bar
7137 East Stetson Drive, Scottsdale; 480-WINE-004
Open nightly until 2:00 am (kitchen serves until 1:30 am)
Perhaps it’s the unmarked entrance off a dark alley that makes Kazimierz feel so stinkin’ cool, or perhaps it’s the low tables, plush couches, wine cask décor and daily live entertainment. Whatever it is, the speakeasy vibe of this Old Town Scottsdale wine bar and restaurant has long been a favorite of Arizonians in the know. Kabobs, flatbreads and fondues are the perfect small-plate accompaniment to the establishments’ selection of over 2,000 wines by the glass.
3146 East Camelback Road, Phoenix; 602-522-2288
Open nightly until 2:00 am
There are times when only one thing can put an exclamation point on a late night evening – a hamburger! But not any greasy fast-food drive-thru burger will do. Featured in no less than 15 Top Burger articles, Delux’s namesake burger features all-natural Niman Ranch beef on a soft baguette with gooey Gruyere, caramelized onions, applewood-smoked bacon, and a pinch of fresh arugula. If this hipster joint doesn’t satisfy you, ask your server to push over a mini-shopping cart filled with awesome sweet potato fries.
Pig and Pickle
2922 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale; 480-990-1407
Open nightly until 2:00 am (kitchen serves until 1:00 am)
The name might imply this South Scottsdale gastropub is a one-trick (or two-ingredient) pony, but that would be far from the truth. One of Phoenix New Times’ 2013 Best New Restaurants, Pig and Pickle offers hungry diners more than a chance to keep the night going – it offers a slew of humorously-named craft cocktails (the Red-Headed Stepchild comes with a Sour Patch gummy on the side), a down-to-earth wait staff, and a late-night hipster menu rife with protein-packed “drankin’ food” selections like wood-oven roasted bone marrow, seared foie gras and kimchi-studded pork shoulder tostadas.
3313 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale; 480-970-8164
Open nightly until 2:00 am
If your energy is starting to wane but the night is still going strong, the New Mexican chile heat at Carlsbad Tavern will get you reenergized for hours to come. The late-night fare includes a laundry list of spicy pepper choices: green and red chilies, habaneros, Anaheims, Hatch, poblanos, Serranos. Carlsbad Tavern thoughtfully provides a chili heat-index guide, so you’ll know what beverage to order from their reverse-happy hour menu. Nothing beats enjoying the Prickly Pear margarita while sitting on their patio enjoying a green chile burrito or stew and the late night/early morning Southwest atmosphere.
