The best way to grow a flower garden is with love and care, like all gardens. One of the most important parts of a flower bed is the mulch used for them to grow in. There are a few different types of mulches that you can use. Some of them you can buy at the store, while others you can create at home. Here is how to create a good mulch for your garden.
Save your food scraps. This includes vegetables, coffee grounds, banana peels, and egg shells. This does not, however, include any kind of meat sources. It should all be organic and meat free. You should start a pile of this compost a few weeks before you plant your flowers, to give everything time to decompose. Beatles and other bugs play a big role in the process of decomposition, so don’t worry about worms or anything, because they actually aerate the soil.
Use shredded newspaper. Once you have a good, natural compost for your flowers to be planted in, surround them with shredded newspapers. This will keep weeds out and it is also biodegradable.
Make sure to keep fresh mulch on your flower bed. This will keep your flowers healthy and growing throughout the summertime, or even fall for some flowers.
You can also put bird houses around your flower bed. They will keep the pesky insect population in check.
