Having children propels our society, economy, and way of life. Without children, society does not advance and the hope we have for the future fades. Yet for this gay man, children are not in his future because of obvious biological roadblocks, societal challenges in raising children, and financial concerns.
Two men do not make a child
Two men cannot create a life. Yes, there are many options from surrogate mothers to adoption, but the idea of two individuals combining their genetic material to create a life does not apply to same sex couples.
I can say that I am a unique product from the genetic pool of my father and mother, but any child I would father could not say the same of my future partner and myself.
While this fact may not discourage other same sex couples, it does give me pause.
Who can raise a good child in this world anyway?
With society spiraling down a cesspool of crassness and ugliness, I do not envy parents trying to raise a good and decent child.
Society is against you.
Media is against you.
It’s just ugly out there in a world that values wealth, greed, violence, materialism, and self. Parents have always had their work cut out for them but today’s obstacles make the duty even more daunting.
Even the best and most capable parents face these tremendous challenges. All this saps whatever ounce of confidence I would have in raising a child in today’s world.
Kids cost money
From diapers to childcare to college funds, raising a child is an expensive proposition and the costs just keep on rising. Becoming a parent would mean dedicating ones finances toward successfully caring for the child.
Did you want to see the beautiful beaches of Hawaii while staying at the lovely but expensive Four Seasons Hotel?
I hope you went before you had your child…
Being a parent involves sacrificing your needs for the well being of your child. My parents denied themselves luxury clothes, fancy cars, and expensive vacations to provide a good childhood for my sister and I.
I recognize and respect that sacrifice, but I am not certain that I can do that at this stage of my life.
Having a child is easy – Raising a good child is not
All would be parents should weigh this decision carefully.
And while I respect all people who raise children, this guy is not willing to have one; at least not anytime soon.
