I was sad to see Celebration Station close its doors in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a few years ago. It was my favorite place to go locally for family fun, including go karts, bumper boats, batting cages, and my favorite, miniature golf. It was one of the last places to play miniature golf in the Tulsa area, and a hotel now stands where our family used to play.
Unfortunately, miniature golf seems to have experienced its heyday nearly a generation ago. Putt putt was a great option for a Friday night date or an outing with friends, and there were cool places to go with imaginative courses and pretty lights for night play. Today’s teens have to find other entertainment, because existing courses mainly fell into disrepair or were demolished to make way for new construction.
There are a couple of exceptions, though. You can still play miniature golf both indoors and outdoors in Tulsa, and the prices really aren’t bad. Here’s where to go if you are looking for a putt putt experience with your family.
All Star Sports Complex
The All Star Sports Complex at 61st Street and Highway 169 has a large outdoor miniature golf course, popularly known as Gilligan’s Island. With a large moat, a mock volcano, and a variety of holes, the course presents a nice illusion of an island oasis in the middle of town that can appeal to young kids. Batting cages are also available, as well as a number of baseball related camps and activities.
According to the website, prices are $6 for adults and $4 for children, with group discounts available. Hours vary throughout the year and the course may be closed in the event of inclement weather. The owners suggest calling ahead if you plan to come out, to make sure they will be open when you want to visit.
The Incredible Pizza location on 71st Street in Tulsa offers a variety of indoor entertainment for the whole family, including an arcade, go karts, bumper cars, laser tag and a glow in the dark miniature golf course. The putt putt course features iconic scenes from Route 66, and really does glow in the dark, which is a unique experience. I found most of the holes on this course to be relatively easy, but a little disorienting at times because of the lighting.
Prices at Incredible Pizza vary, because you can buy packages that include a full dinner buffet and a number of different entertainment options. I strongly suggest checking the website for specials and coupons before you plan a visit, because you can save a lot on the cost of your family’s night out.
