A first vacation with your significant other can be stressful, fun, or a bit of both. One of you may want relaxation; the other could be ready for adventure. The key to a perfect getaway, whether it be a quick weekend jaunt or a long luxurious holiday abroad, is all about agreement.
My first vacation with my husband was our honeymoon 18 years ago. We decided upon a road trip throughout the beautiful southwestern United States. A week-long trip with the love of your life isn’t all champagne and roses, though. I learned a lot on that vacation and have since modified my expectations.
Planning is everything
Researching your trip is astronomically important. It doesn’t matter if you’re staying out of town for even one night; research. Arguments between you and your loved one can be lowered immensely by constructing a small travel guide noting directions to your hotel, area restaurants and traffic delays.
Spend time apart
It may seem romantic and fun to spend a week with your honey but twenty-four hours a day gets old quite quickly. This is especially important if your idea of fun is a hot stone massage in the hotel spa and his is rock-climbing with a group of fellow guests, or vice versa. The amenities and guest services at hotels are something to take advantage of.
It may mean that one of you explores gift shops or a local museum while the other catches a nap. Regardless, you both will have enjoyed time alone doing something you both love. It makes romantic evenings that much sweeter.
Spend time together
While activities that only interests one of you is something you both should partake of, activities spent together is also very important, especially if it’s something that is a first for the both of you. It could be ski lessons, surfing lessons, or parasailing. Experiencing something for the first time as a couple enriches your relationship ten-fold.
Don’t be afraid to be seductive
It should be a given that you pack your best outfits, whatever they may be. Some choose not to and walk around in their oldest tee and sweat pants for the sake of comfort; don’t succumb. A vacation with your significant other is supposed to be about romance and fun. Invest in new underwear and other comfortable day or night wear that exudes a bit of playful sexuality. Your partner will appreciate it.
No matter where you and lover plan to visit, thinking ahead so that you both enjoy yourselves as a couple ensures a vacation that is less arguing and more fun.
