Don’t make any more excuses for not doing a triathlon. Instead, choose one of these reasons to make this year the year you do a triathlon:
1. Racing is fun
There’s nothing like toeing the line at a triathlon race and racing against other people and against yourself. Well, there is one thing better, and that’s crossing the finish line knowing that you just finished a triathlon.
2. Good exercise
Training for a triathlon is great exercise. You have to swim, bike, and run your way to your best triathlon performance. Even if you’re not a professional triathlete and you don’t spend all your waking hours training, you’ll still get a great amount of exercise in during your training time.
3. Finisher medals
Getting race swag is always a good reason to race. Finisher medals, race shirts, and free food after your races are awesome.
4. Be social
Forget any of your social media apps. Triathlons are a great way to be social and get to know people who are interested in what you are.
5. Travel to different places
One of my favorite reasons to do triathlons is to have an excuse to see different parts of the country. I’ve done triathlons in Maryland, Washington DC, Utah, Virginia, North Carolina, New Jersey, and Texas. I never would have gone to all those places without my triathlon race excuse.
6. Eat junk food
I know I shouldn’t eat and drink junk, but sometimes I like to have sour gummy candy and juice. Racing triathlons gives me an excuse to eat like that every once in a while.
7. Buy cool equipment
There is no end to the amount of equipment you can buy to train and race in triathlons. From bikes to swim equipment to weight training gadgets, triathlons give you an excuse to buy and try it all.
8. Wear lycra and spandex
OK, so maybe you don’t necessarily like to wear spandex, but if you do, there’s no better excuse than triathlons. At least racing triathlons will let you wear it with everyone else at the race without standing out too much.
