The NBA draft lottery has come and gone. While the fans of the Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers , Oklahoma City Thunder and Sa n Antonio Spurs are still glued to their tv’s during the conference finals, everyone else is gearing up for the NBA draft. June 26, some teams futures will change forever with the selection of a kid.
The Philadelphia 76ers were in the news all year-long with the talks of “tanking” being used in every other sentence. That term is reckless in my opinion, because they did what any “rebuilding” team should do.
Blow the team up and start from scratch! And that’s what the Sixers did, blew it up and started from scratch.
The Sixers draft day trade last season left many scratching their heads. Why would they trade their “All-Star” for an unknown commodity? They selected Nerlens Noel with their pick last year. Noel didn’t see the floor once the entire season. They are set to use their second 1st round pick this year at #10. Who will it be?
While Noel didn’t play a game during his first year in the league, the future is definitely bright for him and the Sixers . Michael Carter-Williams ( MCW ) was their other first round pick last year and was easily the rookie of the year. Add those two guys with the two 1st round picks coming next month and the amount of cap space the Sixers have available to sign the right players and you have a team that will be contending for a playoff spot really soon.
This year’s draft class has been highly touted as one who could one day cause a debate with LeBron’s 2003 draft class.
Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Joel Embiid , Dante Exum , Julius Randle, Aaron Gordon, Marcus Smart, and Noah Vonleh all have potential to be special in the NBA. In no way am I saying that these guys will have LeBron-like , DWade-like or Carmelo-like careers, but they all have “potential” to be great.
While I’m higher on some more than others, the Sixers are in a prime position to pick 2 of these guys with the #3 and #10 pick in the upcoming draft. While I do believe either the Cavaliers or Bucks will select Embiid leaving either Wiggins or Parker there for them to pick at #3, it’s no given. I would not want Embiid on the team, but that’s just me!
Mock drafts are all over the place during this time of the year and I’ll be posting mine soon as well. One pick can change the outcome of the draft and the outcome of your favorite teams future.
Who do you want on your team?
