In Southern California, at least where I live, spring is the prettiest time of year. Everything is green, the flowers are blooming and the temperature is always just right. With its light airy fabrics and delicate details, many spring fashions mirror this. Whether you live in a warmer or cooler climate, spring is the time to pull out those mint green flats or cross body bag and start showing your lighter side. Here are five must-have spring fashion trends for 2014.
Having pastels on my “Spring It” list isn’t too shocking! However, there were plenty of icy pastels on the runway; a slight detour from the typical Easter egg shades. Look for pastels with a bit of sheen, like this dusty pink satin blouse from H&M. Yet, if you like basic lavenders and minty greens, those are right on par for spring 2014 fashion too.
Black and White
Elle says ‘black and white’ is one of the biggest color trends for Spring 2014. Everything from structured sheaths to flowing skirts could be seen on the runway for spring. This is a great trend because most everyone has a black or white piece to build upon. For warmer spring days, I love this black and white floral v-neck dress from Free People. You can easily pair this with a cardigan and tights for cooler spring days.
In the spring fashion shows, some of the models were wearing head-to-toe metallics on the runway. However, you don’t have to wear a gold jumpsuit to be on-trend for spring. In fact, an understated metallic pattern is a subtle way to add a little shine to your wardrobe. I like this bronze floral jacquard skirt from Banana Republic. It looks nice with a neutral top.
Wide Leg Trousers
I’m not a huge fan of billowy pants. However, for those of us who aren’t models, Glamour recommends to keep your wide leg pants “leaner on the flare and higher-waisted.” This helps keep your look slim. Of course, a pair of heels doesn’t hurt either. For a work appropriate look, try the very sexy wide leg pant from Victoria’s Secret.
Hint of Pink
Light pink was a winter trend. For spring, pops of pink are very stylish. You might wear a bright pink tank under a cardigan or blazer. Another idea is to pick a dress with some pink in the pattern. If you want to recycle a little black or white dress, add a thin pink belt for an instant spring upgrade.
