Coconut oil seems to be everywhere right now. So, I bought a big tub of it and thought I’d see what the fuss was about. So far, there are four things I really love about it.
1. A little goes a long way. If you’ve read any of my previous articles, you’ve probably noticed that I like saving money. So Coconut oil has not disappointed on that front. Whatever I’ve used it for, I’ve found that I don’t need a lot of it. Since it’s in such a big tub and didn’t cost me that much money at all (I spent a little over 11 bucks), that translates to savings!
2. Great moisturizer. Coconut oil is an amazing moisturizer. I have used it on my cracked winter hands, on my elbows, and even on my skin after a shower. You don’t need hardly any (like the tiniest smidge), but my dry cracked hands were healed almost overnight. This means I won’t be wasting any money on fancy moisturizers.
3. Good for you! You can also eat coconut oil (obviously). And a lot of people use it in cooking as a healthier (or vegan) alternative to butter. While I recommend buying two different tubs, one for your skin and one for the kitchen, before I put it on my skin I did try to cook with it. And it was yummy. And there is more coconut oil on the way because I ordered some more after tasting it in a light stir fry.
4. Great for your hair! I also used coconut oil as a hair mask, and while it did require some intense washing to get it completely out of my hair, I don’t regret it. After I got all the oil out, my hair looked shiny and way less frizzy. Who knew?
