Political Science is a good course to take in school. I’ve learned it’s important to be aware of what’s going on in the world today, because what affects one can affect us all. Here are a few things you will learn from taking or studying Political Science.
Your individual rights
The U.S Constitution enforces our rights as a people, and it’s important we know our rights. We are empowered as an American Citizen through the Constitution and protects us from injustices. The “Founding Fathers” laid the foundation for laws and government.
Branches of government and its responsibilities
There are different branches of government (Legislative, Executive and Judiciary). They all have different functions and responsibilities. You will learn what they do and how they work. I never learned about these things and actually retained it on my own. But when taught in a classroom setting it became less boring.
I’ve learned why it’s important to understand democracy in Political Science. We have a democracy here in the United States and that’s how we go about selecting our leaders. It’s very important to exercise our right to vote. You will learn about the other types of leadership and ideologies used in other countries. Learning those made me appreciate America where we can really be whatever we want, and achieve our goals.
Knowledge of the Legal System
The past paved the way to the present. A background on government, helps you better understand the legal system today. Society is changing and people are changing along with it. So new laws are being made to better fit into the modern world. Political issues are constantly arising and its beneficial to know how to maneuver and even make a change for the good.
