A sore throat is usually the first sign of a cold. It can also indicate something more serious, such as strep throat. Even though a sore throat isn’t harmful, it causes discomfort. The pain is sometimes so severe, that it prevents you from swallowing. It can also prevent you from sleeping well.
Fortunately, there are many ways to get rid of a sore throat. Usually, natural remedies can effectively cure a sore throat. Here are some remedies for a sore throat:
Gargling with warm salt water, reduces swelling in the throat. It also helps to loosen the mucus and pulls it out of your swollen, inflamed tissue. This also flushes out irritants or bacteria. Just dissolve one teaspoon of table salt with eight ounces of warm water. Stir it, until the salt dissolves. Then, gargle for several seconds. Spit it out, and repeat the salt gargle several times each day.
Lozenges And Sprays
Choose cough drops that contain a cooling ingredient, such as menthol or eucalyptus. They help to moisten and numb the throat. They also provide relief. Sprays like Chloraseptic, work the same way. They contain phenol, which also numbs the throat.
Cough syrups coat the throat and provide temporary pain relief. It is best to choose a non-drowsy formula during the day. A nighttime formula, such as Nyquil, should be used, if you are having trouble sleeping. It can also relieve pain and help you sleep.
Drink Plenty Of Fluids
Fluids ease the pain. It also helps keep your mucous membranes moist. Moist mucous membranes are better able to combat bacteria and other irritants. They are also able to fight against other cold symptoms.
