To mark the 50th birthday of the Mustang, Ford will build a limited-edition model to kick off the 2015 production year. Only 1,964 cars will be produced with features to distinguish them from all other Mustangs in this next generation of Pony Cars. This production quantity is significant because it is the same number as the year when the original Stang made its public debut, 1964.
2015 Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition
The 50th Anniversary Edition starts with the standard GT model fastback and adds special performance and appearance features in a combination unique to these limited-production models. The 5.0 GT engine will get a horsepower boost and quick-off-the-line rear end gearing, in either the automatic or 6-speed version.
From an appearance standpoint, the most recognizable features will be the chrome corral pony in the center of the grille and the louvered rear-quarter windows, comprised of three sheets of dark-colored glass. Here are some additional features of the Mustang’s exterior:
- Offered only in Wimbledon White or Kona Blue, which will not be offered on other 2015 Mustangs,
- Additional touches of chrome around taillights and side windows,
- Gas cap with script, “GT 50 Years”, and
- Unique 19″ spoke wheels.
Exclusive to the anniversary edition, the inside will have:
- Two-tone cashmere and black leather seats,
- Cashmere accents on interior surfaces,
- Logos on seat backs, and
- Plaque on the passenger’s side dash that signifies the car is a “50 Year Limited Edition” Mustang, including its special production serial number.
To make things even more interesting, Ford has announced it will build one convertible version of the Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition. It will be dressed in Wimbledon White, just like the very first Mustang to roll off the Dearborn assembly line in 1964. However, this car will not be sold to the public, but raffled to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Research Society.
The winning ticket will be announced at Mustang Alley in Ferndale, Michigan on August 16, 2014 during the annual Woodward Dream Cruise . Talk about an instant collectible! This one-of-a-kind Mustang will certainly lead a pampered life as one of the most prized Pony Cars of all time.
