In 2014, wedding invitations are greatly inspired by the Roaring Twenties. Softer, daintier designs and smaller-than-average 5 by 7-inch size cards are gaining popularity.
According to The Perfect Palette, the top 10 wedding color trends of Spring 2014 are:
- Mint
- Blush
- Rose Gold
- Glittery Gold
- Coral
- Orchid
- Dusty Blue
- Grayed Jade
- Pale Yellow
- Cerulean
A Pantone press release actually hailed Radiant Orchid as the color of 2014. But the company’s reasoning behind the pick seemingly reflects a great deal on 2014’s wedding fashion mentality: “While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. ”An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”
The following three themes spectacularly reflect on 2014’s hot wedding invitation trends:
Vintage Theme
The 2014 top wedding colors certainly encourage creativity and originality while still channeling a vibe from days gone by. In fact, Invitesweddings.com suggests that the vintage theme is all the rage. An online Huffington Post article states that Hollywood, especially the 2013 film, The Great Gatsby, is fueling the theme’s popularity. Certainly, the vintage theme of easy-to-read fonts and ”scrolly” accents pairs well with the subdued tones of most of the hot colors of the year. Don’t forget that a vintage wedding may not be complete without mason jars. Use them as centerpieces or even as the main graphic on your wedding invite, like this example. (Tip: To further extend the theme past the invitations to the actual event, Elegantweddinginvites.com features photos of vintage suitcases decorated as card holders.)
Pink (Blush) Theme
Blushing brides are literally ‘in’ this year. Use pearls and lace to compliment soft blush tones on your invitations. (That means don’t even consider obnoxious ‘hot’ pink if you want to conform to popular 2014 ideology.) Pink peonies or garden roses could be beautiful on invitation designs (see Momental Designs’ example here) as well as stunning additions to the wedding locale and reception tables.
Woodland or Bohemian Chic Theme
Currently, the fairy-like, boho wedding theme is popular probably due to the effortless way it marries the love of creativity and originality with this year’s insistence on softer, gentler colors and floral accents! Brides, bridesmaids and flower girls are given freedom to proudly don flower crowns in 2014! Yes, let go of extreme formality. Curly, eccentric-like fonts are hot in this floral-laden invitation idea from Inviteswedding.com. (Click here to see an example photo and fun theme ideas from The Knot.) Sure, it seems like the perfect idea to also add glittery inks to your invitations, but don’t forget to add the tiniest touch of glitter to your make-up, dress, flowers or centerpieces to make your day sparkle.
