All around the country people are getting ready for Earth Day 2014. Here in beautiful Jacksonville, we’ve got activities planned all over the city! Whether you’d prefer to stroll along the heart of Jacksonville listening to music and entertainment at our Earth Day Ecology Fair, or you’re looking for more of a family friendly atmosphere, we’ve got it all covered!
Jacksonville kicks off this year’s events with the Earth Month Celebration. On Sunday, April 13th from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. come visit the Whole Foods Market of Jacksonville, located at 10601 San Jose Blvd. While you’re browsing the local market you can enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee by bringing your reusable mug to the coffee bar, and when you bring your Whole Foods Market receipt to the customer service counter, you receive a free Better Bag made from recycled water bottles. From 1-3 p.m. you can sample local organic foods from each department, and you can let your kids get in on the fun with a seed planting activity. There’s also a raffle for a Green Product Gift Basket filled with eco-friendly products valued at $75!!
The following Saturday offers even more for planet lovers like you! The Earth Day Ecology Fair begins at 10 a.m. and runs through 4 p.m. at the Jacksonville Landing. Come rain or shine! This exciting event offers 80 different educational and interactive booths. They’ve even added a children’s stage on the west end where the kiddos can participate in more than ten different hands-on activities including Earth Day arts and crafts and face painting. The animals are even taking part in our celebration this year with their Earthday Party for the Planet. On Saturday, April 26th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. visit the Jacksonville Zoo to party and educate yourself with environmental and animal conservation booths located through out the park. The kids can enjoy activities, entertainment, prize drawings and special visits from Jazoo the lovable lion. If that’s not enticing enough, get $2 off admission when you bring in an e-recyclable (old cell phones, etc). There’s also an added bonus if you’re the proud owner of a hybrid- VIP treatment with front row parking! First come, first served so don’t be a lazy lion! If you’re not going to be in the Jacksonville area during these times, that’s okay. There’s still many more events going on here in sunny Florida. Our 9th Annual Central Florida Earthday begins Saturday, April 19th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Orlando at Lake Eola Park. This is a family and dog friendly event, and a smoke free environment. They have a kids zone, artist corner, animal haven and so much more! Admission is free but you must RSVP on the Earth Day Event facebook page.
