Whenever I hear the acronym MMO I immediately think World of Warcraft, this MMO is not on my list however. Don’t get me wrong I think World of Warcraft is an extremely iconic MMO, heck it may even statistically be the best MMO to date. However I digress, it’s time to talk about the MMO’s that matter the most to me.
- DC Universe Online – This MMO was my first, that being said I may have some extremely biased views. I feel this MMO is the most unique out of all the other MMO’s I have played mainly because of its combat mechanics. The combat system is extremely fluid as expected from an action-MMO. The negative side to this game is the leveling system; honestly I feel it was put together very lazily. There is almost a non-existent storyline during your leveling experience; this is where you’re supposed to become immersed with your character, learn to love your character as it grows more powerful, and sadly that just is not there. Another bright side to this MMO is the end-game content; if you stay long enough to make it past the grueling leveling experience you are in for a treat. The end-game content in my opinion is very satisfying with the scaling of the content and rewards. That is all I have to say without revealing too much.
- Star Wars The Old Republic – SWTOR has the best storyline in a MMO hands down! Everything that was missing in DCUO comes into fruition here and more. While I was leveling I actually cared about my character, and my character actually talked! I have played many MMO’s where my character doesn’t talk and in my opinion that really takes away from the experience of the character growing on you. Honestly would you rather have a witty, talkative, and brilliant character or a coagulation of pixels that never moves it mouth?
Overall I feel that these two MMO’s really changed my experience in that genre. It could also change your experience if you haven’t played it already, which is why I suggest at least trying it out.
