I have lived in California my whole life and have visited Disneyland several times. When visiting Disneyland there are some essentials that you need to bring. Here are 10 things you need to bring with you on your next Disneyland visit.
One of the most important things to bring with you on your Disneyland trip is a backpack. A backpack is important to hold all of the stuff that you bring with and all the souvenirs that you may buy in the park. Don’t worry about leaving your backpack off to the side when riding a ride because Disneyland is one of the few theme parks that lets you bring your bags onto the ride itself. Many of the rides have a storage area directly below or in front of your seat on the ride. This is actually one of the reasons I like Disneyland more than other theme parks.
2. Water bottle and snacks.
There are many theme parks and places that don’t allow outside food and drink but Disneyland does allow it. I have taken in water bottles and sandwiches many times. This helps cut down the cost inside the park and is great for snacking throughout the day. Check the Disneyland website or guest relations to make sure they still have this policy when you plan on visiting because it might change, but as of now, you are allowed to bring in your own food and drinks.
3. Walking shoes.
This is not the time to be wearing heels or flip flops. You need to make sure that you are wearing comfortable shoes that you can walk and stand in for a couple hours. When you visit Disneyland there’s a lot of walking to get to each attraction and to get through the line queue for each attraction. I wouldn’t suggest bringing new shoes either. I did on one Disneyland trip and ended up having very sore feet because my feet weren’t used to the new shoes yet. Bring a pair of shoes that you have used before and that are comfortable for walking.
Another very important item. Disneyland is a unique experience and there will be many photo-taking opportunities throughout the park. There are actually designated photo spots that are marked throughout the park that would make for great pictures and you can also take pictures with the various characters that roam throughout the park as well. I like taking all my pictures from a Disneyland trip and making a scrapbook out of them.
It really doesn’t matter what time of the year you go because you’re going to be outside no matter what for hours. You need a hat to protect your face from the sun. I think the best kind of hat to wear is either a bucket hat or a hat that has a brim that goes around the entire hat. A baseball hat won’t give you enough coverage that you need but if that’s all you have that’s better than nothing.
You could actually use the poncho year-round as well. It’s great for when it rains and it’s also good for when you go on water rides and you don’t want to get soaked with water. The great thing about a poncho is that they fold up very easily and won’t take up much space in your backpack.
7. Weather related items.
Depending on when you go you’ll need certain items. In the Summer you must bring sunscreen. Don’t be shy about it either. Make sure you lather up the sunscreen all over your face and neck and reapply more throughout the day. It’s very easy to get sunburned at Disneyland and I have done so on many trips. In the winter when it’s raining, feel free to bring an umbrella. Be considerate when walking around the park with an umbrella though. The last thing you want to do is walk into a crowd poking everyone with the ends of the umbrella.
8. Light jacket.
Bring a light jacket that can either be tied around your waist or put into your backpack when you’re not using it. Some indoor attractions have the air conditioner on so you might be a little cold on/in them. Bringing a light jacket is great so you can use it when you need to. I usually bring a light jacket that zips up and I just tie it around my waist when not using it.
9. Plastic Ziploc bags.
This is something that I don’t see many other people do but that I do myself. I take a gallon sized plastic bag and put my camera, phone, and wallet into it before putting it all into my backpack. This is great so you don’t have to worry about getting your electronics and important things wet. There are many rides at Disneyland that you can possibly get wet on so instead of risking getting my things wet I just put them in these plastic bags so I don’t have to worry about it.
Disney does sell many different types of lanyards but you can also easily buy one yourself anywhere. The great thing about the Disney lanyards is that they have a place for you to keep your admission ticket so you can easily go in and out of the park. I also collect Disney Trading Pins as well and the lanyard that I use is great for displaying these pins. I really suggest getting a lanyard so your ticket is easily accessible to you and so you don’t have to open your wallet to get your ticket every time you enter the park.
