Mike Pettine who was born on September 25, 1966 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He is the Head Coach for the Cleveland Browns and has been coaching in high school, college and the NFL since 1993.

Mike Pettine played Quarterback and Defensive Back for his famous Dad, Head Coach Mike Pettine Sr. who coached Central Bucks High School to four AAAA State Championships and compiled a lifetime record of 326-42-4 in a 33 year career. Mike graduated with All-State Honors in both positions.
Mike Pettine graduated from the University of Virginia in 1987 where he played Safety for their football team.
Mike Pettine coaching career started as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Pittsburgh in 1993 to 1994. He coached high school football from 1995 to 2001 at William Tennent High School and North Penn High School.
Mike Pettine starred in a documentary, “The Season.” It was filmed during the 1999 season and focused on the rivalry between North Penn High School and Central Bucks High School. Since father and son coached each school, it was an interesting dynamic caught in the behind-the-scenes camerawork.
Mike Pettine was hired for his first NFL coaching job with the Baltimore Ravens as Coaching assistant in 2002. In 2004, he was promoted to Assistant Defensive Line Coach. Again promoted in 2005, he spent he next four seasons as the Ravens, Outside Linebackers Coach when Rex Ryan became the defensive coordinator.
Mike Pettine followed Rex Ryan to the New York Jets in 2009, hired by Rex to be the Defensive Coordinator. No sure how real this position was at the time because common knowledge is that Rex Ryan is the defensive genius, not Pettine. He left the Jets in 2012, when the Jets decided not to renew his contract.
Mike Pettine was hired by the Buffalo Bills in 2013 to be their Defensive Coordinator. They were ranked 5th in pass defense, 23rd against the run, 6th creating turnovers and 21st in points allowed per game.
Mike Pettine was named the head coach of the Cleveland Browns on January 23, 2014. Mike has a hard road ahead of him considering the Browns have had two winning seasons and only one playoff appearance since 1999.
Mike Pettine is taking over the Browns at an optimum time with 6 players being voted to the 2013 Pro Bowl. He also has an opportunity to take advantage of 12 free agents signed since he started including two first round draft picks that go them Defensive Back Justin Gilbert and Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel.
Mike Pettine is part of the new “Three Stooges” plan to turn around the franchise. Owner Jimmy Haslam, CEO Joe Banner and GM Mike Lombardi have been aptly named this nickname for the way the team has been run in the past. The last four coaches fired in the AFC North were all the coach of the Browns so it is probably a good bet that between Pettine’s lack of experience and the bar being set high for success, he won’t last long.
