Winnie Cooper and D.J. Tanner are “Dancing with the Stars!” Classic TV stars Danica McKellar (“The Wonder Years”) and Candace Cameron Bure (“Full House”) are taking ABC’s celebrity ballroom competition by storm and giving viewers a nice dose of 1990s nostalgia to boot.
While these classic TV sweethearts are bringing down the (full) house with their smooth moves (Bure even scored higher than Olympic ice dancing champion Meryl Davis on the show’s season opener), other stars from back in the day have also popped up on reality competitions in recent years.
Check out a few favorites.
Blair Warner would have never tolerated such conditions! “Facts of Life” alum Lisa Whelchel had one of her best “brilliant ideas” when she got down and really dirty for a 2012 stint on “Survivor.” The actress, who played snooty rich schoolgirl Blair on the long-running NBC sitcom, placed second on the rugged reality series. While she kept her TV past a secret from most of her “Survivor” competitors, a few of them (like that pesky Penner!) recognize her. Whelchel later told Entertainment Weekly, “They were just all too young. I did get a few ‘Oh, my mom loved you growing up when you were on.'”
Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley
The former “Saved By the Bell” stars tripped the light fantastic in 2013 on separate seasons of “Dancing With the Stars.” Berkley even paid tribute to one of her most memorable “SBTB” Jessie Spano episodes when she reenacted the character’s “I’m So Excited” pill-popping scene with pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy. Berkley told Variety why she decided to recreate the famous scene: “From the beginning, fans were asking us to dance to that song,” she said. “And we thought, if the producers on the show would go for it, wouldn’t it be fun to recreate that moment-that heightened moment before the jive? For the first time, the producers were willing to open up the mics. They never do dialogue before a dance.”
The “Cosby Show” alum lost 19 pounds on the third season of VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club,” racing the pounds away against “Weird Science” siren Kelly LeBrock and “Taxi” star Jeff Conaway. Bledsoe’s team Ebony Flame didn’t win the competition, but the former Vanessa Huxtable told People she signed on to the show to reduce her body fat percentage: “I’ve always worked out, but I thought the opportunity to focus on it solely for 100 days would be really good,” she said.
Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth and Ian Ziering
The “Beverly Hills 90210” alums all competed on “Dancing With the Stars.” When Doherty was the first person eliminated on Season 10 of the show (despite her decent scores with Mark Ballas), she told Entertainment Weekly she thought her fans may have assumed she was safe so they didn’t vote: “I have the most loyal fans in the world,” she said. “They are amazing, they are the best, and they have always been there for me for 29 years. Maybe the people who aren’t fans, maybe it was black and white for them. But my fans, they love me.
And finally, here’s a ’70s flashback:
It was time for David Cassidy to c’mon and get fired when he appeared on the fourth season of “Celebrity Apprentice.” The former “Partridge Family” star was a teen heartthrob when he played Keith Partridge back in the day, but Donald Trump sent him packing on the very first episode of the NBC celebrity competition. In an interview with K-EARTH 101, Cassidy described the cutthroat reality series as “a circus show.”
