The zombie apocalypse is here. It’s in movies and on TV in popular shows, and it seems that recreational events and activities are not immune to the zombie infection. When it comes to zombie culture, there is no middle-ground. No one has ever said, “I kind of like zombies.” If you’re a zombiephile, a deadite, or a zed-head, consider attending a zombie-themed event or zombifying your next recreational activity, for a fabulously frightening effect!
With the rising popularity in staggering hoards of undead, adding a zombie-theme to your next charity walk is the easiest, and most fitting way to display your undying love for the undead! Have everyone dress the part, make-up, torn clothes, and a bite mark or two, then swarm the sidewalks and draw some attention!
In the beginning, zombies were slouching, shuffling, dragging corpses. Mass quantity, dark corners, and closed spaces were their greatest advantages. These zombies were evidenced by cult classics like Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead. Some current examples are also available, including popular television series, The Walking Dead, which refers to zombies as “walkers.” However, there is a new breed of undead, one that can lunge, climb, and run! Movies like 28 Days Later exhibit “fast zombies.” Running and obstacle race events have developed a taste for this new trend. Plan a zombie race with your friends, or check out the schedule for larger zombie runs like Run for Your Lives, and Zombie Race!
A picnic in the park is made about 1,000-times better with a zombie theme! Dress the part, and pack your basket with an undead banquet. You can approach this from a food-name perspective: Barbeque ribs, head cheese, lady fingers. Or you can create a meal that visually appeals to the undead palate. Carve knuckle-lines into hotdogs and tip each with a ketchup and onion-slice “fingernail.” Bake your favorite meatloaf in a 3D skull pan, and don’t forget the gelatin brains for dessert!
Zombie blood drive
Plan a get-together with friends and family, or your community to enjoy some undead time while giving life! A zombie-themed blood drive is generously ironic, and just generous! Start with a social zombie gathering (perhaps at a zombie picnic), and end with a donation, and a zombie-shaped cookie!
With a little effort, you can zombify any activity; just be imaginative, and use your braaain!
