Return as everybody’s favorite green dinosaur Yoshi to save the Mario Bros. and the Stork. Use Yoshi’s digestive system to shoot out eggs and the brand new colossal eggs, which destroy nearly everything to save the babies and Egg Island. Yoshi will need all the help Yoshi can get to stop the evil Baby Bowser and a Kamek.
The game Yoshi’s New Island is the 3rd game in the Yoshi’s Island series and this game is for the 3DS, and it is a plat former with a 3D design. Each world has its own idea and feeling, giving much diversity to the game. Graphics are the same style as most now-a-day Mario games, so expect quite good graphics and lighting. The color is bright and happy and sometimes the background might be an oil canvas or a painting which is a little awkward, but respectful for showing these arts. The music is somewhat annoying, but clever when discovered how it was done. Every sound or song in this game was made from toys that would be found in a child’s playroom. From a xylophone to a rubber duck squeak, the idea of taking baby toys and making music is ingenious for this game, due to the Mario Bros. being babies. Overall, this game is colorful and happy filled with music; however, this game was designed for kids, so the graphics and sounds idea are designed to please children but it can still please an older gamer.
If you every played any of the other Yoshi’s Island games, the gameplay is similar. You eat enemies and produce eggs to use a a weapon by either throwing them to hit targets or buttons, or to attack other enemies. The main additions are the ability to swallow giant enemies producing these colossal eggs, which are known as “Mega Eggdozers.” When thrown, they demolish everything, like the “Mega Mushroom” from other Mario games, and everything the eggs break add wreckage points to a meter which can give Yoshi up to three lives. Yoshi can do a flutter jump which gives Yoshi much more air time and lets Yoshi reach higher places. Yoshi is invincible and never dies, but when Yoshi is hit, Baby Mario flies off his back and floats in a bubble crying. Yoshi must touch the bubble to get Baby Mario back and get him to stop crying, or time time limit will run out and the baby is taken, resulting in loosing a life. Most bosses are unique giving each a different strategy to defeat them. The best boss is one form of the final boss which is a re-edition of the original classic boss fight. Overall, the gameplay for Yoshi’s New Island is much like its predecessors, but it is still a great game for the 3DS.
In conclusion, Yoshi’s New Island for the 3DS is a great game to anyone who either likes platform games, or has a 3DS. In my opinion, this game is the 2nd best game in the series of the Yoshi’s Island game series. I would give it a 8/10.
