The main plot of the X-Men’s latest film Days of Future Past is that Wolverine is sent into the past to help stop events that would bring the Sentinels into existence. One of the difficulties that Wolverine encounters when he is sent to the past is the fact that Magneto is held in an underground bunker at the Pentagon. In order to free Magneto, Wolverine enlists the help of another mutant, Quicksilver.
Quicksilver (Peter Maximoff) is brought into the operation to help set Magneto free. What many of the audience may not have known is the fact that Magneto is actually the father of Quicksilver. Quicksilver makes the comment that his mother knew someone with the same powers to control metal as Magneto. There is no mention of the fact that Peter has a sister, Wanda. Wanda Maximoff is the Scarlet Witch.
Powers and Abilities
Quicksilver has the ability to move at incredible superhuman speeds. He can move so fast that he is barely perceivable to the human eye. Quicksilver demonstrated these amazing feats of speed by playing ping pong against himself. We also the sheer speed of Quicksilver as he moves through the kitchen area of the Pentagon. In a split second, Quicksilver is able to move through the entire area and subdue the entire room of Secret Service agents. Quicksilver was moving so fast that the rest of the room was in slow motion. Quicksilver was able to disarm or defeat all of the Secret Service, taste a soup that was in midair and move bullets to miss their targets.
High Intensity Vibration
Quicksilver was able to produce a massive high intensity vibration that was able to shatter the glass in Magneto’s cell. By simply placing his hands on the glass and shaking them, he was able to produce enough vibration and force to cause the glass to break.
One major inconsistency that takes place with Quicksilver is that he was not raised in Washington D.C. The comics show that he and his sister were raised in the fictional county of Transia. While this is a very minor detail, it is one that the movie needed to change to add his character to the film.
This will not be the last that is seen of Quicksilver. Quicksilver will be making his way to theaters again in the Avengers Age of Ultron. Quicksilver was a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and was later reformed to become a member of the Avengers.
