Swimsuit season is pretty much here already, and the styles and color trends are unique, different, hideous and a bit the same as last year. The summer of 2013 was the one of mix and match tops and bottoms. It seemed like if you had 2 pieces that didn’t match or coordinate, then you were on the right track. I’m not exactly sure how that’s fashionable, or acceptable, because as someone who can be slightly anal about things, seeing teens and adults in unmatched pairs of swimwear reminded me of my 6 and 8-year-olds who have no fashion sense what-so-ever! But once again, the stores are promoting mix and match combos and the models are not matching. So if you want to be cool and trendy, have your children help you shop.
I am, however, happy to report that one pieces seem to be making a comeback. Unlike past years where only the plus sized women had options, there are tons of flattering one piece suits for women of every shape and size. Monokini’s unfortunately are sticking around…but if you prefer that over a regular 2 piece, the styles have gotten more interesting this year. More than the traditional side cutouts the monokini’s this season also have cutouts throughout the front, some stringy looking.
The colors of the season are fabulous! The most popular colors are coral and royal blue. It looks like the neon trend may finally be coming to an end. These 2 colors I think are fantastic! Nothing is more flattering on a tanned body then royal blue! The juniors departments are focusing on halter, ruffled, hanky looks. Every top seems to have some sort of ruffle or hanky look to it. But the misses department seems to have the same type of suits and designs as every other summer. Which leaves us late 20 -somethings and 30-somethings to make the tough decision of sticking to the women’s departments or buying large sizes in the juniors department. It’s always a tough quandary….but if you want trendy, you may have to go back to the kiddie department.
