If you are anything like me, you dislike buying jeans. These days, there are so many options in style, fit, price, comfort, stretch, and more. There is what seems like hundreds of different jean options in each department store, and it can easily become overwhelming to look for a new pair of jeans. Finding the right pair of jeans is all about knowing your body type. In this article, I have broken down the specific pairs of jeans and what they do for different body types.
Skinny Jeans: Skinny jeans are all the rage these days, and they are my personal favorite. Many people assume that skinny jeans means that only lean people should wear them; however, they are now made to slim a fuller figure and accentuate a lean figure as well. They are great with a casual tee, but can also be dressed up with a nice blouse, a pair of heels and some jewelry. Skinny jeans are great because you can go from a casual day look to a sophisticated evening look by simply changing your top. Be sure when buying skinny jeans that they have a stretch, but not so much of a stretch that they will become loose and baggy after only wearing them a couple of times. Cheaper jeans are usually made out of a more stretchy fabric that allows for them to become stretched out and baggy. Invest in a good pair of skinnies, and they will last you a long time! One of my favorite places to buy skinnies is at Forever 21. You can find them for a great price, and they usually last for several years.
Flare Jeans: These were very popular back in the ’90s, and many women still wear them today. In my opinion, ladies that have longer legs should wear flares. Shorter, more petite, or even fuller figured women with wider hips do not look their best in flared jeans. It tends to accentuate the fullest part of the body, and if you are shorter, it will only make your legs look chunky.
High Rise Vs. Low Cut Jeans: High-rise jeans are great for women with a fuller waistline, a tummy pooch, or wider hips. A high-rise jean will cover up and tuck in that pooch, and will also accentuate your backside, making you appear slimmer through the middle. Low cut jeans are great for leaner, taller, people who want to show off their bellies in a cut-off tee.
Boot Cut Jeans: These jeans are great if you don’t feel comfortable in skinny jeans, but don’t want to go so far as a flare, either. They are slimming all the way down until about the ankle, where they flare ever so slightly. These are great to wear with boots or chunkier shoes, because they will fit over your shoe, without giving you a shorter leg line.
Dark Wash/Acid Wash/Light Wash: Jeans come in a variety of different washes and colors. For an evening look, go with a darker wash. Sometimes darker wash jeans can also be worn in the office, as many of them have the same look as a black slack pant. A light wash is more casual, and can be worn with t-shirts in the summertime. An acid wash usually has a lighter wash with a white fade somewhere on the jean. If you are a girly girl and like some bling, you can also buy jeans with rhinestones, jewels and designs on them. You can also buy jeans, especially skinny jeans, in a variety of colors and styles.
Do some research before you go into the store to buy your jeans, and you will have a pleasant experience! Know what body type you are, and what styles will look best on you and accentuate your curves and body shape instead of working against it.
