There are some people who will tell you anything. “Leave your job to pursue your dreams!” “Fire your boss!” “Take that job and shove it!” Ok. What if I can’t ? Should I not pursue my dreams, while I currently have steady income?
Let’s be realistic. If you’re in a job that you can’t stand, a boss you hate with every fiber of your being and co-workers you’d like to strangle with your bare hands you’re not alone. Most people have felt one of those things at some point in their careers. It’s insanity to stay in a job/career hoping that something will change by magic. It is not insane to stay in a job you have and create an opportunity for yourself to be able to leave..
I find it hard to believe hearing about people who take a year off from their lives and go around the world. Or college students who go to travel abroad for a year. Or even, the aspiring entrepreneur who tells his his/her boss to “f^
Money. Money is needed to be able to make these dreams happen. If you don’t have a crap wad of money to begin with, you’re dead in the water. If I’m traveling the world, I want to enjoy the experiences that it has to offer. I’m not going to stay in a hostel with a group of people I don’t know. I want my own peace & quiet, without worrying about how I’m going to eat & sleep on a budget. Yes, it does build character, but personally, I’m not as young as I used to be. (Insert old jokes here.)
Sorry for the rant, but I did that to say this. If you’re not able to leave your job, for whatever reason, don’t let anyone convince that you HAVE to quit. If someone is telling you that you need to quit your job, they’re trying to sell you something. I enjoy helping people. That’s why I started the Smart Income Blog. You should be working on your idea, invention, website or whatever it is that you have a passion for during your free time. I have to discipline myself to put down the Xbox 360 controller and focus on blog posts or other ideas I have swirling in my head. Discipline is a key deterrent to why would-be entrepreneurs fail. I don’t want to be counted in that number. Do you?
