When you plan a vacation the last thing you want is to find out the place you booked for you and your family to spend the night and relax between sight-seeing is actually a busy, loud, crowded, or dirty establishment. Here are 4 reasons you should avoid accommodations too close to tourist areas.
1. Tourist Areas Are Busy: Consider staying a hotel away from the tourist heavy locations you plan to visit. While there is an advantage to staying close to where you are going to be spending your days exploring, it is worth considering the amount of hassle and noise you will be dealing with by staying too close to all the action.
2. Beware of Tourist Area Hotels: Most tourist heavy areas offer a plethora of hotel and motel options. Just because it is a tourist or upscale travel area doesn’t mean the service you will receive in the hotels will match the location. In fact, many tourists who travel don’t realize that there are many rundown motels and hotels that are in desperate need of updating. I have read horror stories of families traveling who didn’t realize they had booked a “flea bag motel”. Recently, I booked a motel that offered free tickets to an area waterpark. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is as the saying goes. I ended up locating some reviews that horrified me and promptly cancelled my reservation. A great place to gain insight to tourist heavy locations is by checking Trip Advisor.
3. Hotels Are More Expensive: Hotels near area attractions will cost you a lot more than staying outside the busy traffic area. Since they have the advantage of being close to where people want to be they also gain the advantage to charge more for the convenience. You can save a bundle by staying just 30 minutes to an hour from your destination!
4. Better Service: Staying in a hotel that isn’t swamped with people trying to get to where everyone else is going means that you are likely to have better service. Hotel staff tend to be nicer and less stressed in the surrounding areas than those who work right in the thick of things. You will find if you stay too close to tourist areas you will be waiting longer for the services and the hotel may even run out of certain amenities.
