Several years ago, my doctor told me that walking 30 minutes most days a week, would significantly improve my health. He said walking could actually rebuild new arteries in place of damaged ones. According to Harvard health, walking can be considered as do it yourself cardio bypass, in place of invasive surgery.
As men age we face issues, that were not a part of our younger lives. Cardiovascular illness, diabetes, and neurological decline can all be improved by taking those extra steps. Walking in the early morning sunshine, with arms exposed will increase Vitamin D3.
My brother in law had a knee injury from a fall off a bicycle as a child. As he entered his 40’s the pain worsened. He is now in his 50’s and recently told me that, that since he has been walking 5 or more miles a day, he no longer has any pain.
Initially I was skeptical of walking, because I did not desire knee pain from a sports injury to flare up. It took a while, but I began walking with my wife. Our first walk together was 5 blocks to a local Hardee’s restaurant. We ate lunch, rested then returned home. This gave me my first mile.
A few weeks later we walked one mile on a local green way, and back home. This was my first 2 mile walk, which took about 50 minutes. I had to stop and rest at intervals, and I sipped on bottled water, but I made it. I was sore the next day but not as bad as I thought. This encouraged me to continue.
Walking will help you lose weight or maintain a weight loss. The more you walk, the longer you will be able to walk. Walking is beneficial for those diagnosed with PAD,(Peripheral artery disease), and will improve muscle tone. If you desire to add life your years, and years to your life, begin walking one step at a time.
If you have a spouse or significant other, research shows that walking with them is good for you both. My wife really supports and encourages me. Walking together gives us quality tie together in addition to improving our heath. we also take a camera when we walk on local trails, and get photo’s of the sights.
