There are lots of reasons that I write. I write a lot, and I always have. The first writing I ever did was to write short stories. I don’t write many of those anymore, but I still enjoy doing it. My reasons for writing have changed over the years. I get to do something I enjoy thanks to the Internet. The Internet makes it easy to write and publish anything I want.
Don’t get me wrong. This article isn’t going to describe my love for writing and the written word. I don’t love writing. It’s more of a tool for me than a pleasurable activity. Writing isn’t an art form for me like it can be for certain people. I’m not that good, and I’m not that interested. Occasionally I really love something I read or write just because of how it’s written, but that is beyond me, and a rare occasion.
Writing is a tool for me. It gets things out there that I want to say. I have a lot of things brewing and stewing around in my mind, and it’s quicker to type than to write on paper like I used to. It’s also easier on my hands. It takes a lot less effort to use a keyboard than a pen. The Internet makes this extra easy, as it corrects my mistakes or at least shows them to me a lot of the time. I get to be lazy.
Writing is also therapy for me sometimes. I am bipolar, and writing lets me work through the tough times through poetry or articles about what I’m going through. Blogging is ideal for this, and I use it all the time for this purpose.
Writing also gives me extra income. Not as much as I’d make with a regular job, but enough for the extras in life, and to make me comfortable. I don’t work, so I have a little bit of independence with the money I make from writing online.
