Years ago, it was a great treat to go to the movies on Saturday. I would take my kids, let them pick a movie and get a large popcorn and large soda. We had the best time walking home and discussing what we saw. The last time I went to the movies was about five years ago and I couldn’t believe the prices.
Just the movie ticket for one person was $7.25. I can’t go to the theatre without getting popcorn at $3 and a soda at $4. So just for me it was $14.25. This brought my grandkids to mind. When they get old enough I will have to save for a while to take them.
I was wondering how much it cost to go to the theatre at today’s prices. We were talking of going to see the new X-Men movie. I started looking online for the nearest movie house. From what I found you have to go thru a ticket agent in order to see how much it costs. The listings for concessions were not listed so I called them.
- Tickets for one adult $10.25
- 3D extra service $3.50
- Popcorn $8.50
- Candy special $2.50
- Soda $6.10
These prices are so not acceptable. I love watching movies on the big screen but I so miss the days of the drive-in and going to the dollar movies. Today you can go online, order thru Netflix or check out Redbox a couple of months after the movie comes out. I know everyone needs to get paid but for someone like me who has to try to make it to the next paycheck, there is no way I am going to the movies anytime soon.
I will gather my grandchildren together, make popcorn and drinks, and watch a movie from home. I can rent a couple of movies and get snacks for the price of one drink at the movie theatre and that is just what we will do. And in doing this, we can take as many potty breaks as needed and not miss a thing or bother anyone else behind us. We can watch it in the light, in the dark and from the comfort of home. Last time I went to the movies there was a line across the screen and gum in my seat. I was not a happy camper for the price I had to pay.
