Usually it happens when the parents are sound asleep. The baby wakes them up crying for something but what is it?
My babies would wake me up around 2:00am every morning. Now that they are adults I still have a habit of waking up at 2:00am only now when I wake up I have nothing to do and no reason for waking up.
My babies had a reason for waking up. They were teething and wanted their gums rubbed because they hurt. After I relieved their pain they could go back to sleep.
Sometimes they had a gas buildup from not moving for so long. The gas would give them a tummy ache and they would need to be jostled until the gas moved and they would feel better and go back to sleep.
At some point and time during the night they needed to relieved themselves and they would have a wet heavy diaper that would be uncomfortable. After I changed their diaper and made them more comfortable they would go back to sleep.
If they had a rough night and kicked their covers off they would get cold and I would just warm them back up, tuck them into a warm soft bed and they would go back to sleep.
On some rare nights they may have caught a cold or other illness that made them uncomfortable and unable to sleep. On those nights the baby and I got very little sleep because of their discomfort.
Recently I read that a baby may cry at night so that their parents won’t be able to have any more kids for them to have competition. My kids always seemed to have a physical discomfort that needed tending to and that is why they cried at night.
Babies are learning to live in a rough world and sometimes they are uncomfortable. They may not realize that they are not comfortable or why they are uncomfortable so they cry and want someone to comfort the problem.
Babies cry at night for a reason. Maybe it is simply a bad dream or they may have woke up because they heard a noise that startled them. A baby may cry just because they are lonely and want to be near another person after all they had been with someone non-stop for months before they were born and that is the world they are use to. They are not used to being alone and that can be frightening. If you would like to read more you can go to http://www.care2.com/greenliving/the-surprising-reason-babies-cry-at-night.html.
