Being single can be great. You are not tied down to any one person, and you can get up and go whenever you feel like it. You make your own decisions; you don’t have to consult with another person. However, being single isn’t always easy. The following are some of the reason I feel that being single can be hard.
The number one problem with being single is being lonely. When you are single, there is no one to share your hopes and dreams with. There is also no one to share your frustrations with. A part of being human is interacting with others. Although there are your co-workers, friends, and family members, it just isn’t the same as sharing your inner most feelings with a significant other.
The second thing that makes being single difficult is not having the financial security that married couples have. Married people who both work are able to combine their finances and lessen the financial strain. When you are single, there is no extra income. All the bills belong to you, and there is only one income to pay them with. This is not to say that all single people are struggling financially. With careful money management, single people can live quite comfortably. However, having another income to rely on can be an added bonus.
Feeling out of place
Family get-togethers and holidays can make single people feel awkward and out of place. Most of the people present will have come with a companion, and if you’re single being around all those couples can be aggravating especially when everyone feels the need to ask you why you aren’t married or where is your date.
Lack of a sexual partner
When you are by yourself, it can be sexually frustrating. No matter how many cold showers you take, it doesn’t replace having someone there.
Being a single parent
Single parenting is a tough job, and I should know because I am one. Don’t get me wrong. It can be successfully done by a single person, but it is much more difficult. A single person has to decide whether to raise children without a partner or have no children at all.
For a lot of people, being single is their preferred lifestyle. However, it isn’t always easy to live the single life. At times, it can be downright frustrating. Single people have to deal with many issues that couples don’t. They must also deal with loneliness and sexual frustration.
