COMMENTARY | As Twitchy notes, former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice was forced to withdraw as the commencement speaker at Rutgers University by a small group of student and faculty protestors who called her a “war criminal.”
This in turn has caused a backlash among the student body. The university’s student government had voted by a comfortable majority to invite Dr. Rice to speak. But apparently her involvement in the War in Iraq made her unacceptable to enough protestors that she was obliged to withdraw so as not to prove a distraction from graduation.
On the other hand her absence is proving to be just as distracting. Some of the tweets from students who are outraged at the campaign against Rice suggest that race was involved. Before this is dismissed out of hand, Twitchy also noted that another former secretary of state who supported the War in Iraq spoke at Rutgers without protest or controversy. Her name, of course, is Hillary Clinton, who just happens to be white.
To be sure if group of conservative students had hounded – say – Susan Rice, she who is at the center of the Benghazi scandal, off campus that accusations of racism would be fast, furious, and loud. So in the interests of consistency we can go ahead and suggest that race figured into the protests.
Condi Rice is guilty of the sin of being CWB, conservative while black. That is one reason why she is anathema at Rutgers and Hillary Clinton, a white liberal, is not. Of course Rice is a woman of many accomplishments and supreme intellect while Clinton is – charitably speaking – entitled addled. As many of student tweeters suggested, the graduating class at Rutgers is missing out on a lot for not hearing the words of wisdom that Dr. Rice would have imparted. Their graduation has been effectively ruined by a small minority of fascists who don’t want to hear anything that lays outside their comfort zone.
