From costumed characters to magicians, kids’ party entertainers take the pressure off of you by keeping the kids occupied during the party. But not all entertainers are the same. Some are better at working with children than others. Do your research before settling on a party entertainer.
Choose the Type
The first decision is what type of entertainer to hire. The theme of the party is one consideration. The age of the kids also helps determine what type of party entertainer you choose. A clown might be scary for toddlers, for example.
When you narrow down the type of entertainer you want, start making calls to local options. Ask about the scope of their services. Determine if there are different packages that include different activities. For example, if you hire a costumed character, a base package might include a short appearance by the character. A higher package might include the character reading a story or doing an activity with the kids.
References and Reviews
Never hire a child’s party entertainer without doing some research. Anyone can call himself an entertainer, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be good at it. You can often find reviews online to help you get an idea of the quality of the entertainer. Also ask for references from the performer. He should have a list of past clients you can call.
Another way to find out who is the best is to ask people you know. It’s always better to hear a review from someone you know because you are more likely to get an honest assessment. Ask for recommendations for entertainers, or ask your friends about a particular entertainer you’re considering.
Check Them Out
In some cases, you might be able to see the performer in action, either at another child’s birthday party or a public event. Seeing how the performer interacts with kids is a great way to assess him. He should be patient with the kids and know how to get their attention. He should be fun for the kids.
