One of the biggest complaints about Apple post Steve Jobs is that nothing has really changed and no new products have been released. For a while it’s seemed that Apple wasn’t listening at all. Their hardware changes have been minimal.
Apple is now somewhat opening up, allowing more room for developers to work with the OS. Some have argued that because of this change jail breaking will become unnecessary. iOS has always been closely guarded, and there has always been a tight review process for being able to develop apps and an even tighter process for releasing an app.
Many people have had two major complaints about the iPhone: the size of the screen, and the fact that there is only one size. Steve Jobs argued that the size of the iPhone was perfect because you could touch anywhere on the screen with one hand. The iPhone has been left in the dust as Android devices have continued to get bigger. Apple will release 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch devices this year.
Apple is revamping PR this year. Remember seeing those iPod commercials all the time with the silhouettes? The general public hasn’t heard a lot from Apple in a while, and that is likely to change. Apple will be hiring more in house people for marketing meaning that marketing costs will be lower and Apple will likely run some big campaigns as they revamp.
Apple is likely to start competing in the smart watch market with their release of the iWatch in October. This will be the first new hardware product Apple has released in four years. With Apple’s new acquisition of Beats, there is likely to be many more new hardware changes to come.
This will be a big year for Apple. Stay tuned.
